Dear Friends: Fail Smarter!

Written by Britt Turpack

Excuse me? Fail Smarter?  “Yes, self…”(inner dialogue) “FAIL SMARTER.”

First of all, let’s be real, Success and Failure go hand in hand kind of like PP & J. You can’t have one without the other. You just can’t. So with that being said, why do we (society) walk around LIFE avoiding this idea of FAILING? Because it’s scary and uncomfortable and hurts and there is usually shame attached to it? Yes.

Did you ever just stop and think maybe we just have the wrong idea of it?

I’m 28 years old. If I had to reflect on the last 28 years of my life, I would have to say that anytime that I have ever obtained any, “success,” is simply because there was a moment of, “failure,” preceding it.

It is from these moments of feeling like I am “failing” that I have forced myself to stop and look in the mirror, (figuratively) pause, and reevaluate the larger picture and the work that needs to be done.

These moments that makes us FEEL hopeless or sad or not worthy…AKA all of these THINGS that we run from; are the moments in life when I have learned the most. Only as a result of me surrendering to the failure is when I have learned my lesson and in turn found success.

So I say FAIL SMARTER because these moments in life are inevitable. Life ebbs and flos and success come with LETTING GO of the expectation that we should be in that feel good zone 24/7. So let’s just think of it as a perspective shift. Guiding us away from a situation that wasn’t meant for us in the first place. It’s like an unlikely tour guide in LIFE. So these moments, these TOUGH TEMPORARY MOMENTS are actually opportunities for growth, to move us to towards something that is for us, we just need to start looking at them with the correct pair of lenses.

I think the key to failing is to accept it when it comes.

Acknowledge it.

See it.

Wave hello.

Be like, “Yo, you’re not fun, but clearly there’s a greater lesson here.”

And then move on. #pivot.
